Brain Battle Thursday « The Grumpy Man's Guide to Losing weight & keeping it off

My brain is at war right now. One side wants me to cheat this weekend and the other side wants me to keep doing what I've been doing until I hit my next plateau. One side wants me to take a day off after my 20 mile ride while the other side wants me back out there working hard on the levee.  Not sure which side will win this weekend. Only time will tell.

Weight Statistics

323/181.3/173

I think I would have snagged on a plateau today had it not been for the 20 mile ride yesterday. I'm hoping Atkins continues to work its magic just a little bit longer. I can't wait to crack the 70s.  I think the excitement over that will probably keep me on the straight and narrow pathway this weekend.

Yesterday's Meal Plan

Breakfast – Chicken salad with coleslaw

Lunch – Hamburger patty with cheese and coleslaw

Dinner – Tuna with avocados

Snack – String cheese

Second Dinner :P – Hamburger patty with cheese slice

Calories – 1450

About 8pm last night I was starved. I decided it was better to eat another patty than sit there until I cracked and ran out the door to Taco Bell. The bike ride burned up to 990 calories so I was operating at an extreme deficit yesterday so I really needed to add a few more calories anyway.

Biking Update

Just realized I was so tired yesterday that I released today's info yesterday. I always write about the previous days ride but yesterday I slipped up and wrote about my Wednesday ride. So no new info today. I rode 20 miles yesterday and my legs while a bit wobbly aren't sore so I will be headed out for my short ride at some point today.

For those that don't know, on the day after a long distance ride, I cut myself some slack and take a short ride of 6.4 miles.  My normal daily ride is 10 miles. The long distance ride may peak at 20 miles. Not sure I want to do much more than that. Plus as slow as I ride that 20 mile ride takes 2 hours.  Oh, and I am almost to the end of the bike trail.  I will probably extend the long distance to the end of the bike trail which might add a couple more miles to the total.

Tip Of The Day/Mini Rant

I used to have another site on my blog roll for keeping diet information but that site has been horrible lately. I can't get in more than half the time.  I am aggravated to no end. I have been keeping my data on that site for almost a year and it appears I am going to lose it. I've tried to slowly move some date from the old site over to the new site but it is a nightmare doing that. Each time you need to check off the dates and go through multiple pages. It would take me the next year just to move that all over.  Sites like this should set up an option to save all date in a spreadsheet format. That really shouldn't be hard for the weight info and really isn't any different for the food info.  Grinds my gears that I am going to lose all that info unless I print 365 pages of my food diary and 365 pages of my weight diary. :(

On other forums, Many people have suggested I switch to

http://www.myfitnesspal.com/

This site is actually superior to the other site. The nutritional info database has WAY more options that my old site. So far I have been able to find everything I use in the database. That is really helpful. On the other site I was constantly having to create my own items in the database.

Keeping a journal of your progress and caloric intake is essential to your diet.  You need to find a site to help you keep all this info. Just do a better job of picking a site than I did. Check the forums in the site you use. If they have 35 recent topics then maybe that is not a really active site. My fitness pal has 55k active topics so I don't have to worry about the site not being up to par since it is very active.

I'm glad I found my fitness pal but really grumpy about losing or having to slowly move over a years worth of data.

Happy Dieting, see you tomorrow
