The best job in the world « ajdview

Over the past two seasons, we've seen UEFA's introduction of two extra match officials to Europa League matches, and now Champions League matches as well. I'll be as simple as I can with the point I want to make about them…WHAT THE HELL DO THEY ACTUALLY DO?!?!?!?!

They've got the best job in the world. As UEFA officials, they get paid a healthy sum to stand there, watch arguably the best footballers in the best club competition in the world, and not make any decisions.

I've been to quite a few Champions League matches where I've just happened to be in quite good sight of those 5th and 6th officials. It's been about seven Champions League matches in the past two seasons, and I'm yet to notice them do anything towards helping make a decision. And the same goes for watching matches on TV.

Whereas you'll see the linesman clearly making decisions or the ref going over to consult with the linesman, it doesn't happen with the..whatever you want to call them. Most recently the Chelsea Man Utd first leg and Tottenham's second leg against Real Madrid spring to mind. With Evra's challenege on Ramires, it was generally admitted around numerous commentators, pundits and fans that it was a penalty.
