Happy Birthday Pietro Aretino! The poet was born Arezzo, Italy on April 20th, 1492. He is the inventor of modern literate pornography. A king of satire, Aretino became known as "the Scourge of Princes." His tongue, and wit, were sharp and these attributes eventually made the poet a bevy of enemies. Aside from his wit, Aretino was also known for his presumably lewd literary libido. Such works as I Modi caused so much outrage that he was temporarily forced to flee Rome. Today, "They proved no less controversial: at a 2008 performance at Cadogan Hall, the programs were withdrawn on allegations of obscenity."
