Where the Candy Rooster is Made « D.Gospodinova

As spring is officially here now, people can again start traveling more, planning little get-away trips for the weekend.

This mood has reached me as well. it made me think of one of my favorite places to visit, especially in spring time- The Etar.

It is an open-air museum and is recorded as  a neighborhood of  Gabrovo, a town in northern Bulgaria. It is a great place to visit as it is astonishingly beautiful with its old architecture and nature sights. It presents the Bulgarian customs, culture and craftsmanship. The prime idea behind The Etar is to illustrate the architecture, and the way of life and economy of Gabrovo and the region during the Bulgarian National Revival period. There, one can see houses with two floors, bay windows, a clock tower, and the beautifully decorated house by Saakov featuring 21 windows.

Its always nice walking around this little museum town (if I might call it like that, it's a neighborhood but with its own separate life). You can enjoy the beautiful sights and tranquil atmosphere while educating yourself about the history of the country. The places is especially interesting for tourists.  There are little museum shops where one can enter and watch a potter  work on his pottery, for instance (like in the old days) and even purchase one for yourself. Of course, there are souvenirs, too. And food. There's a line of tiny charming candy stores where you can watch how the candy's made. They have lots of different kinds there. My favorite is the candy rooster. :)
